Forever in our hearts...Jason Godfrey
I met Jason when I moved to O. S. in 6th grade. He was all the girls crushes.
So many memories....it seems just like yesterday that we were all running the streets wild...or in Jason's case skateboarding...I think Jason was the one who first told me about Tony Hawk....I believe he could have been the next Tony. Jason had so many talents. He was quite the artist...I remember in art class the picture he painted of Marilyn Monroe with her gold dress and notorious sultry look.....especially seeing I am a huge fan of Mailyn Monroe, I couldn't forget it. Here him and Jeremy at the stop and shop plaza "our hangout"
Jason was the most handsome male in our class. There is no doubt about this. He was also the most stylish. Even early on, in the middle school years, he set the style barometer with his hair shaved in the back and long and blond in the front. All the girls had crushes on Jason and all the boys wanted to be him.
Jason was also a gifted linguist. He was responsible for the slang that came out of so many of our mouths. 'Who cut your hair?" "McFly?" All from Jason. He authored the words that made up our insults and compliments all throughout our school years.
JMG was/is such an important part of so many of our formulative years. Yvette, I don't know how you did it, but I can only hope my son has one iota of Jason's personality and knack for making friends.
Jason's been gone for ten years, but in so many of our minds and memories, he lives large.
My first memory of Jason is in the third grade. We had the same homeroom. I believe the teachers name was Mrs.Thorton, but don't take my word on that. I can remember clearly, this one day, Jason deciding he was going to harass me as much as possible. Everytime I left my desk, he would put my chair up on top of it. He did this over and over all day long till I was at the brink of madness. When I went to the teacher, Jason feigned ignorance and pretended to have no idea what I was talking about.
Strangely enough, this incident was the beginning of many, many years of close friendship.
